Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has criticized the arrest of Allu Arjun in connection with the stampede during the Pushpa 2 promotions. Initially sent to 14-day judicial custody, Allu Arjun was later granted interim bail for four weeks.

In a recent post on X(formerly twitter), Varma called on fellow celebrities to protest strongly against the actor's arrest, questioning whether being immensely popular was a crime. He compared the situation to a past incident involving the late Sridevi, highlighting that celebrities should not be held accountable for crowd-related tragedies, stressing the need for a fair perspective on such matters.

In response to Allu Arjun's arrest linked to a woman's death during the Pushpa 2 premiere, Ram Gopal Varma wrote, "Every STAR should STRONGLY protest against @alluarjun‘s ARREST because for any celebrity whether it’s a FILM STAR or a POLITICAL STAR , is it a crime for them to be ENORMOUSLY POPULAR???" He then drew a parallel between Pushpa 2 stampede incident, and a similar tragedy involving late actress Sridevi.

He questioned whether the police will now go to heaven to arrest the late actress. "3 people died in the lakhs of crowd who came to see SRIDEVI in the shooting of my film KSHANA KSHANAM ..So will the #TelanganaPolice now go to #HEAVEN to ARREST #sridevi ???"

For those unfamiliar, Kshana Kshanam is a 1991 Telugu film written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma. The movie featured Venkatesh, Sridevi, Paresh Rawal, and Rami Reddy in key roles.

A tragic incident unfolded on December 4 at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, during a stampede as thousands of fans gathered for the premiere of Pushpa 2 starring Allu Arjun. A 35-year-old woman tragically lost her life, and her son suffered critical injuries. In the aftermath, a case was filed against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management following a complaint from the woman's family. On December 13, Allu Arjun was arrested, but the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail, leading to his release on the morning of December 14.
