Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor recently got real about the personal challenges he faced trying to balance life between two marriages—and how it affected his children.
He was first married to Mona Shourie Kapoor in 1983, and later married the legendary Sridevi in 1996. Looking back, Boney openly talked about how tough it was to manage relationships across both families and how his kids felt the weight of those complicated times.
He praised Mona for her maturity and the way she kept things from turning bitter between the children. “Mona did not encourage resentment,” he said, though he admitted that it was still hard on the kids growing up with the split.
In a heartfelt chat with Chanda Kochhar on her YouTube channel, Boney shared how he told Mona about his relationship with Sridevi. “I told my first wife. I had confessed to her. Look at this ring I’m wearing and the one Sridevi was wearing. Both were bought by Mona. She brought the children up without creating any kind of hatred toward me or the other kids.”

Boney also opened up about the emotional struggle of being caught between his two families. He recalled a letter from his son Arjun asking, “Why don’t you come home?” and said, “I used to feel bad. What could I do? I was divided. On one side was my wife (Sridevi), and on the other side were my kids. I couldn’t leave her alone.” Though the kids had their mother and grandparents to lean on, the distance still took its toll.
Since Sridevi’s passing in 2018, things have changed. Boney feels lucky that his children—Arjun and Anshula from his first marriage, and Janhvi and Khushi with Sridevi—have grown closer and found a sense of family togetherness.
Even though his relationship with Sridevi initially caused controversy, particularly given the public's sympathy for Mona, time has healed the wounds and the families have moved on.
