Raj Kundra delays meeting regarding Rajasthan Royals

A press conference originally planned for Monday, June 2, 2025, has been postponed by Raj Kundra, the businessman and former co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals IPL team.

The purpose of the event was to showcase records and proof regarding purported financial irregularities, offshore money laundering, and fiduciary duty violations involving a well-known Rajasthan Royals franchise promoter.

This postponement comes in the wake of an interim injunction secured by Emerging Media Ventures Limited (EMV) and Manoj Kumar Badale from the High Court of Justice in London.

The injunction, granted without Kundra being given prior notice, prohibits him from making any disclosures or public statements concerning the parties involved. Kundra and his legal team are currently challenging the injunction and preparing an urgent application to have it lifted. Their case is based on several key arguments, including:

The claimants’ failure to provide full and frank disclosure during the ex parte injunction hearing.
Allegations of abuse of process, suggesting the English courts are being used to silence accusations of criminal wrongdoing.

That the injunction constitutes an unjustifiable restriction on freedom of expression, protected under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The strong public interest in revealing alleged corruption, financial misconduct, and regulatory breaches affecting one of the IPL’s most high-profile teams.

Addressing the situation via his verified social media account, Mr. Kundra declared, “Let it be known I will not be intimidated or silenced. The truth will come out. The game may be called ‘gentleman’s’, but behind the scenes, it’s anything but. Due to recent developments, it may not be proper to hold the press conference, hence the press release is currently on hold but this is far from over.”

A spokesperson for Kundra further emphasised, “The English courts should not be used as a tool for corporate secrecy and intimidation. This is not just about Mr. Kundra’s rights; it is about the public’s right to know the truth, and about holding powerful interests accountable when wrongdoing is alleged. Suppressing speech in the face of credible allegations of corruption serves no one.”

He also posted an image that read "Karma Bol".

In 2009, Raj Kundra and his wife, actress Shilpa Shetty, purchased an 11.7% stake in the Rajasthan Royals for around USD 15.4 million. However, his ties with the team were severed in 2015 after he was implicated in an IPL corruption scandal involving allegations of spot-fixing and betting.

It is expected that the hearing to discharge the injunction will occur the week of June 9, 2025.

In the meantime, Kundra is unwavering in his resolve to use the appropriate legal channels to bring issues of great public concern to light and to be transparent.
