Bollywood star Aamir Khan has made bold plans that could be the most significant chapter in his filmmaking career as he prepares for the release of his next movie, Sitaare Zameen Par.
The actor has stated that after the promotion of his next movie is finished, he will focus entirely on a long-held dream project: the Mahabharat.
Speaking on entrepreneur Raj Shamani’s podcast, Aamir shared how deeply the ancient Indian epic resonates with him and hinted that the scale of the venture could be so vast that it may well become his swan song. “It’s layered, it has emotion, it has scale, everything you find in the world, you will find in Mahabharat,” he said, reflecting on the depth and universality of the story.
Aamir, known for his methodical approach and passion for perfection, has carried this project in his heart for years. He admitted it’s the one narrative that has remained close to him and one he has always envisioned bringing to the big screen. When asked whether Mahabharat might be his final film, the actor thoughtfully replied, “Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do. I cannot do anything after this, as the material of this film is going to be like that."
He added, “I hope that I die with my shoes on, but since you are asking, this is the one thing I can think of. Perhaps after this, I will feel that I don’t need to do anything else."
In an earlier conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir had already spoken about the monumental scope of the project, noting, “That’s one of my biggest ambitions.” He also acknowledged that even developing a detailed script would be a years-long process.

Interestingly, Aamir has yet to decide whether he will act in the film. “We’ll see who we should cast based on who’s appropriate for which part,” he remarked. He’s also considering handing over the directorial reins, noting that the Mahabharat cannot be told in a single film and may span multiple instalments. “I don’t think you can tell the Mahabharat in one film, so it will be multiple films. I am looking at the large scale.”
Explaining further, he said, “To complete it within a set time, we will need more than one director,” suggesting a massive, multi-part cinematic universe.
On the personal front, Aamir Khan confirmed to be in a relationship with Bangalore based entrepreneur Gauri Spratt.
