Actor Nimrat Kaur, who has long been well-known for her vocal support of India's military, has now expressed her pride in seeing women take centre stage at such a significant national moment.
India's attention was drawn to an impressive press briefing after Operation Sindoor, the swift military response to the April 22 terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
Alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, two female officers, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, took centre stage to provide important operational insights. They were praised by the Hindi film industry as well as defence circles for their leadership, poise, and self-assured speech.
While talking to News18 Showsha, Nimrat mentioned, “It’s something which is so important as messaging for a country that’s so secular and so dynamic with its approach to women being in the forefront,” said Kaur. “I feel like it’s no longer a wish for the future. We see it in our cabinet ministry, political ranks and the army. There couldn’t have been a better message to the whole world and to everyone than the move to put these wonderful and strong women in the forefront leading the way for its entire operation.”
She further highlighted how this visual served as the most powerful counter-narrative to cross-border terrorism. “For the deviousness that the Pahalgam attack stood for... There couldn’t have been a better visual than two women in uniforms leading the way for us. I loved it,” she remarked.
Daughter of the late Major Bhupender Singh — an Indian Army officer martyred in Kashmir in 1994 and posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra — Kaur also reflected on her childhood dreams. “I used to want to be him. I used to want to put on that uniform... until I realised how difficult it is... I was grateful when I got to play one in The Test Case,” she added with a laugh.
Regarding her career, Nimrat Kaur most recently appeared in the web series Kull. A royal family and their complex relationships, where loyalty and power are put to the test, are the focus of the show. As a member of this royal family, Nimrat's character in Kull deals with secrets and treachery.
