Lekka to pay tribute to Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar

There’s something quite magical about listening to music that connects two very different eras—and that is exactly what Lekka manages to achieve with her debut EP, One in a Billion.

Rather than simply leaning into current pop trends, she reaches back into India’s musical treasure chest, drawing inspiration from the legendary voices of Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle, and then reimagining their timeless essence through a modern, stylish lens. The result is a collection that feels familiar yet completely fresh, nostalgic yet daringly contemporary.

From the very first listen, it’s clear that Lekka isn’t just sampling the past—she’s conversing with it. By weaving original Kishore Kumar samples and reinterpreting Asha Bhosle’s classics, she builds a sound that celebrates where Indian music has been while also hinting at where it might go next.

It’s bold, it’s glamorous, and it carries a certain emotional warmth that grounds her sleek pop production.

The EP opens with Haseena, a song that channels a sultry femme-fatale aura and sets the tone for Lekka’s confident, electric pop identity. Wet Dream, her reimagining of Asha Bhosle’s Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye, offers a bilingual, sensual twist.

It maintains the softness and feminine charm of the original but reframes it from the perspective of women embracing their own sensuality—playful, vocal, and fully in charge.

Then comes YOLO, easily one of the EP’s most infectious tracks. Built around the joy and free-spirited energy of Kishore Kumar’s Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana, the song doesn’t just reference nostalgia—it immerses listeners in it by using Kishoreji’s actual voice.

It’s the kind of track you imagine blasting at festivals, where memory and modernity collide beneath bright lights.

Light Another One slows things down into a chill yet groovy space inspired by Dum Maro Dum. Lekka’s effortless vocals paired with Asha Bhosle’s timeless influence create a dreamy texture, amplified by Sarthak Gaur’s catchy rap verse that gives the track a youthful jolt.

Each track feels like a love letter—sensual, fun, and deeply appreciative—introducing classics to a new generation without stripping them of their soul.

Reflecting on her labour of love, Lekka shares, “I have always been a fan of Kishore ji and Asha ji. This truly feels like a dream fulfilled. These tracks are my versions of the classics, new age, new people, very 2025 vibe. The great artists showed how their art lives on forever. We’ve just given their magic a modern and new take for the younger audience, and I hope listeners enjoy these new tracks from my EP as much as I enjoyed creating them.”

One in a Billion is now available on all streaming platforms—ready to be discovered by anyone who loves the magic of old-school charm blended with new-age pop energy.
