‘First it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain.’

Multifaceted artist Halsey released her new song titled ‘The End’ yesterday and it is one of her most raw and heartbreaking tracks yet.

A gritty acoustic number with lyrics as heavy as a ship’s anchor.

“Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive,” Halsey wrote in social media post, “Short story long, I wrote an album. It beings with The End. Out now.”

The Instagram post included videos and pictures of her undergoing treatment for a serious illness. The singer also tagged the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Society as well as the Lupus Research Alliance.

In the first video, Halsey is seen sitting on a couch while rubbing her legs and talking to someone outside the field of the camera, “I feel like an old lady. I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick. At 30, I’m having a rebirth and I’m not gonna be sick and I’m gonna look super hot and have so much energy and just get to re-do my twenties in my thirties.”

The 29 year old singer also posted a video of the ups and downs during treatment, and her recording the song.

The lyrics in ‘The End’ are haunting after learning about the immense struggle Halsey is going through.

“Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain / And I don’t like to complain, but I’m saying sorry.”

The latest track was written completely by Halsey. It talks about the journey of a person with a chronic illness. She has not disclosed the specifics of her illness at the moment.

At the end of the song, Halsey discusses her own mortality.

"When I met you, I said I would never die / But the joke was always mine 'cause I'm racing against time / And I know it's not the end of the world, but could you pick me up at 8? / 'Cause my treatment starts today.”

Halsey’s first song ‘The End’ from her upcoming album is a soul stirring folk song and has generated a lot of buzz on social media.

Netizens are sending prayers and strength to the singer.

One user on X wrote, “halsey being diagnosed with lupus and leukemia and genuinely thinking she was/is going to die within the past/upcoming few years after she became a mother with her rainbow baby….my heart is so heavy. her health/wellbeing is at the forefront of my thoughts right now”

“this poor f—king woman has been through so much. lupus & leukemia all while raising a child. god i love you halsey, you are so strong,” another wrote.

We are awaiting Halsey’s 5th album eagerly and can’t wait to hear the rest of her story.
