Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Maidaan’, which hit theatres on the festival of Eid (April 11), has managed to collect almost Rs 10 crore till now.
The movie, which is a biopic of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, also has Priyamani and Gajraj Rao in prominent roles. ‘Maidaan’ clashed at the box office with another big release, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff.
‘Maidaan’ had received good word of mouth, which is likely to help the movie sail through the weekend.

On Wednesday (April 10), the movie had its paid previews, through which it managed to collect Rs 2.6 crore, and on the day of its actual release, it earned Rs 4.5 crore. On Friday, ‘Maidaan’ collected Rs 2.72 crore net in all languages, and the movie has hence managed to earn Rs 9.82 crore.
Priyamani, who was recently seen in ‘Article 370’ and earlier in ‘The Family Man’, plays the role of Ajay Devgn’s wife in the movie.
‘Maidaan’ faced a slight roadblock on Thursday after a Karnataka-based writer claimed that the movie’s story was originally written by him. The Mysore Sessions Court had ordered a stay on the film’s release in Karnataka. But later in the day, Karnataka HC cleared the movie of plagiarism charges and allowed the film’s release.
‘Maidaan’ has been appreciated by critics and fans alike. Actor Varun Dhawan had also posted about the movie on his Instagram story. Sharing a poster of the movie, Varun wrote, “Hearing such incredible stuff about this film.”
