On Tuesday morning, fans were stunned by unexpected rumours surrounding actor Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja. Multiple reports claimed the couple was heading towards a divorce after nearly 38 years of marriage, but neither of them has addressed the speculation. Despite reaching out for a response, both Govinda and Sunita have kept silent, leaving the rumours to swirl. Now, the couple's family members have started to react to it.
In a conversation with HT City, Govinda's nephew, actor-comedian Krushna Abhishek, swiftly dismissed the rumours. "This is not possible. They won’t divorce,” he said, offering reassurance to fans who were concerned about the couple's relationship.
Govinda’s niece, actor Arti Singh, also spoke out to quell the rumours. Speaking to News18, she called the divorce speculation “baseless gossip,” emphasising that the couple’s bond is incredibly strong. “I am honestly not in Mumbai right now, so I haven’t been in touch with anybody. But let me tell you something—this is false news. These are just speculations because their bond is so strong. They have built a strong and loving relationship over the years, so how can they get divorced? I don’t know where people get all these rumours from—completely untrue. People should refrain from spreading misinformation about their personal lives,” she said. Arti also recalled that similar false claims about her own divorce had surfaced in the past, underscoring the unnecessary stress such gossip causes.
Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, clarified to Times of India, that there were indeed issues between the couple, largely stemming from statements made by certain family members. However, he assured that the situation was being worked through. “There is nothing more to it, and Govinda is in the process of starting a film, for which artists are visiting our office. We are trying to resolve it,” Sinha explained.
Govinda and Sunita’s relationship began long before he became the Bollywood superstar he is today. The couple first met when Govinda was in his final year of his B.Com course and Sunita was in Class 9.
Their connection ran deeper as Sunita’s sister was married to Govinda’s maternal uncle, Anand Singh. Their romantic relationship blossomed as Govinda made his debut in Bollywood. After three years of dating, the couple married on 11 March 1987. Together, they have two children: a daughter, Tina Ahuja, and a son, Yashvardhan.
While the couple has yet to officially comment on the divorce rumours, their family members and close associates have been quick to dismiss them as unfounded. Fans and followers of Govinda and Sunita continue to await a direct response from the couple, but for now, the speculation remains unconfirmed.
Sunita, in recent weeks, has opened up about her marriage and personal life in several interviews. In one such conversation, she revealed that she and Govinda are living in separate homes. She was even spotted on a Valentine’s Day outing with their son, Yash Vardhan.
When paparazzi asked where Govinda was, Sunita responded with a witty remark: “Hello, happy Valentine. Sir apne Valentine ke sath hai. Gadbad mat samjhna. Wo apne kaam se bohot pyaar karte hai na, to kaam unka valentine hai.” Her playful response only fuelled the speculation further, with many fans interpreting her words in various ways.
