J.K. Rowling praises first two episodes of HBO's Harry Potter Series, says, "SO, SO, SO GOOD"

J.K. Rowling has expressed her excitement for the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series, revealing that she has read the first two episodes and is highly impressed. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Rowling shared her enthusiastic approval, stating, “I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO Harry Potter series and they are SO, SO, SO GOOD!"

While she won't be writing the scripts herself, the acclaimed author clarified her involvement when a fan inquired, saying, “No, but I've worked closely with the extremely talented writers.” This collaboration ensures her creative input into the adaptation of her beloved seven-book series. Rowling is also serving as an executive producer on the show, alongside Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod.

The highly anticipated series recently unveiled its leading trio. In May, HBO announced the cast for the iconic roles of Harry, Hermione, and Ron on Instagram, with comments notably turned off to shield the young actors from potential online negativity. Dominic McLaughlin has been cast as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The casting process was extensive, with over 30,000 actors reportedly auditioning for these pivotal roles since the casting call went out last year.

Beyond the central trio, a distinguished supporting cast has also been revealed. Veteran actor John Lithgow will portray the wise Albus Dumbledore, while Janet McTeer is set to play the formidable Minerva McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu has taken on the role of the enigmatic Severus Snape. The jovial Rubeus Hagrid will be brought to life by Nick Frost, and Luke Thallon will appear as Quirinus Quirrell. Paul Whitehouse is cast as the ever-present caretaker, Argus Filch.

As of now, HBO has not announced an official release date for the Harry Potter series. However, industry reports, including from Variety, indicate that filming is expected to commence this year, with the series anticipated to premiere in 2026. The project aims to faithfully adapt each of Rowling's books, with one book reportedly being covered per season.

J.K. Rowling's creative involvement as an executive producer and her close collaboration with the writers underscore a commitment to maintaining the integrity of her original stories for this new screen adaptation. Fans eagerly await further updates on this monumental undertaking, which promises to bring the wizarding world to a new generation of viewers.
