Former couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s marriage is officially coming to an end, but the financial details emerging from their divorce are as dramatic as their love story once was.
The couple, who got married in June 2006, are divorcing after 18 years of being together.
It was Nicole Kidman who filed for divorce earlier this year.
Now, reports reveal that their prenuptial agreement contained a unique provision , a sobriety clause, commonly referred to as the 'cocaine clause.'
According to multiple reports, the agreement entitles Krith Urban to $600,000 for every year of their marriage, provided he remained sober.
With their union lasting nearly two decades, that figure could translate to a staggering $11 million payout for the country music star, who has been vocal about his struggles with substance abuse.
Keith Urban has often credited Nicole with helping him through his darkest moments.
Speaking at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in 2024, he once recalled how addiction had almost destroyed their relationship just months after their wedding.
“We got married in June 2006 and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions that I’d done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens. I went into the Betty Ford Center for three months. I had no idea what was going to happen to us. And if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl. Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love," he had said then.
The singer has repeatedly acknowledged that Kidman’s support was central to his recovery. In earlier interviews, he revealed how she staged an intervention that saved him. “Meeting Nic and falling in love with Nic became, I realize now in hindsight, my sobriety. That was how I was able to keep it together,” he told Rolling Stone.
Despite the impending divorce, Keith has never shied away from praising his ex wife's spirit and influence.
“That’s the thing about Nic — she loves life. I’ve never met anyone who has such a passion for being alive,” he once said.
As their personal lives make headlines, both stars continue to focus on their careers.
Talking about Nivcole, she recently finished work on the sequel to 'Practical Magic' with Sandra Bullock. Whereas Keith has been touring since May to promote his 11th studio album, High.
