Television czarina Ektaa R Kapoor has just dropped a major hint that’s sending fans of Indian TV into a nostalgic frenzy. At a recent event, Ektaa all but confirmed the long-speculated reboot of her iconic soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which originally aired from 2000 to 2008 and changed the face of Indian television.

While whispers of the show’s revival have been circulating for weeks, what truly stole the spotlight was Ektaa’s cryptic-yet-clear statement about the show's lead, hinting heavily at the return of Smriti Irani, the original Tulsi Virani.

"We are bringing politics into entertainment—or better, a politician into entertainment," Ektaa said with a smile. While she didn't name Smriti directly, her remark strongly suggests that Smriti will reprise her iconic role, bringing Tulsi back to life for a whole new generation.

Adding fuel to the excitement, Ektaa revealed that the reboot will run for 150 episodes. This number is not arbitrary; it holds symbolic significance. The original show ended in 2008 just 150 episodes short of the 2000-episode milestone. "The love we have for this program brought everyone related to it back together to complete just those 150 episodes to reach that 2000 episode. This show deserves that," she explained.

While Smriti Irani’s comeback is nearly confirmed, casting for the role of Mihir Virani, played by multiple actors over the years, is still underway. A source close to the production shared with HT that Amar Upadhyay, Cezzane Khan, and Ronit Roy are among the frontrunners.

Originally aired on Star Plus, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi dominated TRP charts during its run and became a cultural phenomenon. Smriti Irani’s portrayal of Tulsi, an ideal daughter-in-law torn between tradition and justice, earned her immense popularity and even set the stage for her successful political career.
