Cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, has sparked controversy with his remarks on the 2007 Bollywood film Taare Zameen Par. In a conversation with a YouTuber, he dismissed the film, calling it “badi he wahiyat film hai,” expressing his disapproval of its message and content.

Taare Zameen Par, directed by Aamir Khan, is a critically acclaimed film that sheds light on the struggles of a dyslexic child and the importance of understanding and nurturing children’s unique talents. However, Yograj Singh appeared to reject the film’s premise. During the discussion, he asserted, “Baccha wohi banega jo baap kahega,”implying that a child’s development is determined solely by the father’s guidance, seemingly disregarding the importance of individuality and emotional support highlighted in the movie.
Singh’s comments did not stop there. He made further controversial statements regarding women and power, which have led to significant backlash on social media. He stated, “A wife will destroy your house if you give her power. Sorry to say, Indira Gandhi ran this country and destroyed it. Give them respect and love, but never give them power.” This misogynistic remark added fuel to the fire, with many social media users criticizing his regressive views.

His dismissal of Taare Zameen Par as an unworthy film surprised many, especially given its widespread appreciation for addressing an important social issue. The film tells the story of Ishaan Awasthi, an 8-year-old boy struggling with dyslexia, and how a compassionate teacher, played by Aamir Khan, helps him overcome his challenges and recognize his true potential. The movie received critical acclaim and multiple awards for its sensitive portrayal of childhood struggles, making Singh’s remarks all the more controversial.

Social media users and Bollywood fans were quick to condemn his statements, with many calling his views outdated and problematic. One user wrote, “Taare Zameen Par is a masterpiece that changed the way we look at education and parenting. Calling it ‘wahiyat’ is ridiculous.” Another commented, “It’s 2024, and we still have people who think like this. Shocking!”
