PM Narendra Modi Interview|No one trusts coalition govt, people want stable regime, says PM

Every year, one new leader will take oath as the PM, make a new government and new cabinet. For five years, they will stay busy in the swearing-in events, while the country will be busy in difficult events, says PM Modi on 'Congress formula'.

PM Modi says a party must provide a name when asked who will be named the PM candidate.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said no one trusts a coalition government.  The PM had earlier claimed that the INDIA bloc has come up with a “formula” under which the parties in opposition alliance will get the Prime Minister’s post for one year each if they are voted to power.

PM Modi was speaking in an exclusive interview to News18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi, News18 Kannada Editor, Hariprasad, and News18 Lokmat Anchor Vilas Bade.

“Every year, one new leader will take oath as the PM, make a new government and new cabinet. For five years, they will stay busy in the swearing-in events, while the country will be busy in difficult events. Now can any country run like this. It is such a big country. The country has seen instability for 30 years,” PM Modi told News18.

He cited how the Congress formula of “chief minister for 2.5 years” did not work either in Rajasthan or Chhattisgarh. “See the character of the Congress. In Rajasthan, there was an internal conflict. They made a formula that one would be the chief minister for 2.5 years and the other would be the chief minister for the next 2.5 years. It is a known formula. There was a fight within the party in Chhattisgarh. They made the same formula there too. They somehow resolved the matter and kept it going,” said PM Modi.

According to PM Modi, a party must provide a name when asked who will be named the PM candidate.  “You will have to give a name, give anybody’s name. Even for a cricket team, you must have a captain, even for a kabaddi team, a name is given. You are not telling who will handle such a big country,” said the PM.

According to the PM, India’s prestige in the global stage has increased “because 140 crore people of Indians have formed a stable, strong and majority government”.  “So, anyone can trust us, this government has the mandate. No one trusts a coalition government. Such a big country cannot function like this. But today the politics of the country is such that no matter how big a majority a party wins with, it must honour regional aspirations,” said the PM.

He added that for the bright future of the country's politics and aspirations of the citizens, regional aspirations should be given the same respect.   “And that is why even when we got absolute majority, we still formed the NDA government, with the help of NDA allies. Because even after a party gets an absolute majority, for the bright future of the country's politics and aspirations of the people of the country, regional aspirations should be given the same respect and share. This character has been developed by the NDA and the BJP has shown it can be put into practice,” said the PM.
