Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that there is a storm in favour of BJP in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, adding that the southern states will spring a big surprise on June 4.

In a conversation with News18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that BJP-led NDA will score a hat-trick in the elections and break all its past records.

On being asked about opposition's charge that PM Modi is no longer talking about his 400+ goal for NDA, PM Modi said: "I spoke about it yesterday. Congress's agenda is whether BJP will be able to cross 400 or not, they are not even concerned about how many seats they will be able to win themselves."

"I have visited almost every state during campaigning. I have observed that there is a storm [in BJP's favour] ... we will easily cross 400 seats [in the election]," he said.

Asked whether BJP will be able to repeat its 2019 successes in the Hindi heartland, PM Modi said that his party has dominated the entire map of India and not just the Hindi-speaking regions.

"Are Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bengal, Assam, Karnataka Hindi speaking states? BJP today has governments all across the country ... and I am saying this all over the country - BJP hat-trick karegi, karegi, karegi. And it's not like Modi is claiming this. The people of the country have made this resolve ... BJP and NDA will break all their records," PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister added that BJP-led will sweep the elections in both the Telugu-speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where voting in taking place on May 13.

"South will spring the biggest surprise in this elections. In Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana ... you will see a historic shift this year. And BJP-led NDA will see massive success in the region. This is quite clear."

PM Modi added: "I believe that there will be a clean sweep in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. And in states where assembly elections are taking place, BJP is poised to repeat its past successes wherever it currently has a government and will come to power where it does not," PM Modi said.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led NDA put up an impressive show in the Hindi heartland region, winning 177 out of the 225 Lok Sabha seats.

However, in the south, the BJP managed to win just 29 out of a total 129 seats - 25 of which came from Karnataka alone.

This time, the south Indian states assume significance for the saffron party, which aims not only to surpass its 2019 tally of 303 seats but has set an ambitious target of 370 seats.
