Samajwadi Party national general secretary Shivpal Yadav, who is the party's official candidate from the Budaun Lok Sabha seat, announced that his son Aditya Yadav will be contesting from this seat in his place on demand of people.
The constituency is considered to be a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party, which has been invincible on this seat in the six Lok Sabha elections between 1996-2014. The seat was won by the BJP in 2019.
Addressing a rally in Badaun earlier this week, Shivpal said that Aditya would contest from this seat on demand of youths and will file his nomination in Navratri. In the 2019 elections, BJPs Sanghmitra Maurya emerged victorious, receiving 5,11,352 votes. The Samajwadi Party faced defeat this time, with Dharmendra Yadav receiving 4,92,898 votes. Meanwhile, Congresss Salim Iqbal Sherwani came third with 51,947 votes.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Partys Dharmendra Yadav won the seat, receiving nearly 48% of the votes. Despite the Modi wave, the BJPs magic did not work here and their candidate received only 32% of the votes.
