BJP's Naveen Jindal won the Kurukshetra seat in the Lok Sabha elections by 29,021 votes. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Sushil Gupta secured the second highest votes.
Jindal won 5,42,175 votes, followed by Gupta with 5,13,154 votes.
Kurukshetra has a voting population of approximately 1.6 million, the region saw a voter turnout of about 75.80%, with 1,135,892 voters casting their ballots during the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Jindal, who joined the BJP this year, had won the Kurukshetra seat during the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket.
In 2019, Kurukshetra seat was won by BJP candidate Nayab Singh, defeating AAP candidate Sushil Kumar and INLD candidate Abhay Singh Chautala. Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 10 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state of Haryana.
The constituency has nine Assembly segments under it – Thanesar, Pehowa, Shahabad, Ladwa, Guhla, Kalayat, Kaithal, Pundri and
Nilokheri.
The parliamentary seat has predominantly witnessed a fierce contest between the BJP, Congress, and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
Congress had won the seat in the region four times between 1980 and 2009. However, the BJP gained dominance from 2014 onwards, reflecting a shift in voter preferences.
In 2014, BJP's Raj Kumar Saini secured the seat in Kurukshetra constituency for the first time with a significant margin, defeating former congressman Jindal.
