Former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan re-joins BJP in presence of Annamalai

Tamilisai Soundararajan who resigned from the posts of  Telangana Governor and Puducherry Lt Governor two days ago has rejoined BJP.  Soundararajan had contested the 2019 Parliament elections from Thoothukudi in southern Tamil Nadu on a BJP ticket but lost to DMK's Kanimozhi.

After rejoining the BJP, Tamilisai Soundararajan said, "I want to contest elections and I have expressed my wish to my party too...I am happy to get back the membership card which I have...It's the happiest day. It's a tough decision and a happy decision too. There were many facilities to me as Governor but I left it...I don't regret it even one per cent...Lotus will blossom in Tamil Nadu for sure."

Tamilisai Soundararajan took over as Governor of Telangana in September 2019. She was the second Governor of Telangana, a state formed in 2014. She was the state's first woman Governor.


Soundararajan, who was also the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, tendered her resignation on Monday. "I resigned of my own volition as my desire is to serve the public directly. When she was sworn in as Governor, she was the youngest among all state governors at the age of 58.  Tamilisai Soundararajan also contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly thrice - from Radhapuram in 2006, Velachery in 2011, and Virugampakkam in 2016. She lost all three elections - the first to the DMK and the latter two to the BJP's ex-allies, the AIADMK, or the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
