NDA might continue leading in Chhattisgarh, as out of 11 seats, NDA is expected to win 9 to 11 seats while INDIA bloc might only get their hands on 0-2 seats as per News18 Mega Exit Poll. The counting of votes begins today at 8 am.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as a major political force in Chhattisgarhi in recent years. Despite the Congress's long-standing dominance in the state, the BJP has steadily gained popularity and grown into a potent rival.

The BJP nominated candidates for all 11 constituencies, including prominent figures such as Brijmohan Agarwal from Raipur and Mahesh Kashyap from Bastar.

Past elections

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured a significant victory, winning 10 out of the 11 seats in Chhattisgarh. In contrast, the Congress party gained ground in the 2019 elections, securing two seats, while the BJP retained its dominance with nine seats. Regional parties failed to win any seats in either election.

Chhattisgarh BJP President Kiran Singh Deo said, "BJP was saying that people of Chhattisgarh will support them. Right now, the trend says that we are comfortably winning 10 seats here. We will win Korba's seat too... NDA is winning approximately 300 seats. And those who are winning 228 seats and not forming the government are commenting... NDA will form the government under the leadership of PM Modi..."

3:00 pm: Former CM Bhupesh Baghel trails in Rajnandgaon constituency

Bhupesh Baghel, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and a Congress leader is 44209 votes behind BJP candidate Santosh Pandey in the Rajnandgaon (CG) constituency.

1:00 pm: NDA to get 290 seats after 6-7 rounds of voting, says ex-Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh

Former Chhattisgarh CM & BJP leader Raman Singh said, "After the counting of voters for 6-7 rounds, NDA is going to get around 290 seats. BJP-led NDA will form its government in the country. BJP will also reach around 270 seats. In Odisha and Andhra Pradesh too, BJP will form its government..."

According to latest EC trends, BJP is leading in Chhattisgarh with 10 seats while Congress has only 1 seat.

9:35 am: First round of voting concludes

Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Arun Sao said, "These are initial trends after counting of the first round has concluded. As and when the counting proceeds, it will become clear that Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister for the third time. All propaganda of the opposition will fail... BJP will win all 11 seats in Chhattisgarh..."

9:00 am: BJP leading with 4 seats, Congress with only 1

According to the Election of Commission India's official data, currently BJP is leading with 4 seats in Chhattisgarh whereas Congress has only 1 seat.

8:30 am: BJP's Brijmohan Aggarwal leads leaving Vikas Upadhyay of Congress behind

Shortly after the voting began, BJP candidate Brijmohan Aggarwal led the initial vote count in Chhattisgarh's Raipur constituency, while Vikas Upadhyay of the Congress continued to fall behind.

8:00 am: Counting of votes begin in Chhattisgarh

In Raipur, Chhattisgarh, postal ballots are being transported to the Sejbahar counting centre. The third phase of the Lok Sabha elections was held in Raipur on May 7. In Raipur, 66.82% of voters cast ballots. Important candidates from Raipur include Mamta Rani Sahu of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Vikas Upadhyay of the Indian National Congress (INC), and Brijmohan Agrawal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

7:30 am: Chhattisgarh records overall voter turnout at 72.8%, better than 2019 elections

In comparison to the 2019 general elections, Chhattisgarh saw a marginal increase in voter turnout across its 11 Lok Sabha seats—a jump of 1.31%. The overall turnout for the Chhattisgarh Lok Sabha elections in 2024 was 72.8%, up from 71.49% in 2019, despite worries about diminishing voter participation in many other states.

7:00 am: The key constituencies in Chhattisgarh

There are eleven Lok Sabha seats in Chhattisgarh, each of which represents a different area or population group in the state. Bastar, Kanker (ST), Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, Surguja (ST), Raigarh (ST), Janjgir-Champa (SC), Raipur, Durg, Korba, and Bilaspur are the constituencies in question.
