Buxar Bihar Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting date, results, candidates, main parties, and schedule

The Buxar Lok Sabha constituency, one of the 40 parliamentary constituencies in Bihar, is a General category seat that encompasses the entire Buxar district, as well as parts of Kaimur and Rohtas districts. It includes six Legislative Assembly segments: Brahampur, Buxar, Dumraon, and Rajpur (reserved for a Scheduled Caste candidate) in Buxar district, Ramgarh in Kaimur district, and Dinara in Rohtas district. Voting will take place in phase seven on June 1.

Incumbent Member of Parliament Ashwini Kumar Choubey, after serving two terms, was denied a ticket for a third term due to perceived anti-incumbency. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has instead selected a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Baikunthpur, Mithilesh Tiwari, to contest his first Lok Sabha election.

Tiwari, who is from Gopalganj, has held various roles within the party, including Bihar BJP’s state vice-president, and state secretary and vice-president, but has no significant political history in Buxar.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has nominated Sudhakar Singh, a sitting MLA from Ramgarh and a former Bihar cabinet minister, as their candidate.

Meanwhile, former officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) Anand Mishra, who had so far been campaigning for a BJP ticket, is now contesting independently.

Buxar has a significant number of Brahmin voters, around 4 lakh, who predominantly lean towards the BJP. Additionally, there are about 3 lakh Rajput voters and 2.5 lakh Bhumihars, who also generally support the BJP. The constituency also includes nearly 3 lakh Yadav voters and 1.5 lakh Muslim voters, who tend to favour the RJD.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Ashwini Kumar Choubey won with a lead of 1.17 lakh votes, a decrease from his 1.32 lakh vote lead in 2014, against the RJD’s Jagadanand Singh, who has consistently put up a strong fight.
