Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),Kanpur is yet to secure jobs for 26 percent of its students in the ongoing placement season, right to information (RTI) data shared with Moneycontrol has revealed.
While 1,417 students registered for placements, 1,045 had secured jobs by May 17, the IIT said in a reply to a right to information query filed by Dheeraj Singh, the founder of Global IIT Alumni Support Group. As many as 372 students are yet to find jobs.

So far, the average cost to the company (CTC) offered is Rs 24.4 lakh per annum (LPA), while the median salary is Rs 18 lakh.
In 2022-23, around 12 percent did not receive jobs. While the average salary was Rs 26 LPA, median was 19.7 LPA.
In the 2021-22 placement season, around 13 percent of students did not get placements and the average salary stood at Rs 24.6 lakh and median at Rs 20 lakh .

Compared to other IITs, the Kanpur college has, so far, performed better in terms of placement as other institutes struggle. Older IITs such as Roorkee have not been able to secure placement for 46 percent of its students, while 64 percent of the students at IIT-Bhilai, one of the newer institutes, are yet to find jobs.
Moneycontrol earlier reported that on an average, at least 20 percent of the students in 14 IITs have not secured jobs in the past two years.
