Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhilai is yet to secure placements for 64 percent of its students, while 46 percent of those graduating from IIT- Roorkee this year are still to finds jobs, RTI data shared with Moneycontrol shows.
The data, shared by Dheeraj Singh, the founder of Global IIT Alumni Support Group, highlights the growing problem of engineers graduating from the country’s top schools are facing.
While the data provided by IIT-Roorkee, in response to a Right To Information plea, was for April 3, 2024, IIT-Bhilai did not mention the date.
Though 2,944 IIT-Rorkee students registered for the placement season, 1,762 participated in campus interviews but only 956 got placed. In 2022-23, around 20 percent of students were not placed. As many as 34 percent of the BTech students are yet to get jobs.

At Bhilai, 208 registered and 133 got placed. In 2022-23, 18 students did not secure jobs.
The average and median salary also took a dip. IIT- Bhilai recorded an average salary of Rs 13.47 lakh per annum (LPA) against Rs 14.48 LPA in the previous season.
The median salary, so far, is Rs 12 LPA, a decline of Rs 2.7 lakh from the past season.
The IIT Roorkee is a 175-year-old college. It was converted into IIT on September 21, 2001, making it the seventh Indian Institute of Technology.
Set up in 2016, IIT-Bhilai is barely seven years old.

The two IITs are the latest dealing with placement woes this season. BHU, Hyderabad, Indore, Palakkad, Ropar, Jammu and IIT (ISM)-Dhanbad, too, have not been able to find jobs for their students.
