Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, is yet to place 40 percent of its students in the ongoing campus placement season, right to information (RTI) data shared with Moneycontrol shows.
The school joins the growing queue of IITs facing trouble in securing jobs for a large number of engineering graduates this year. In reply to an RTI query of Dheeraj Singh, the founder of Global IIT Alumni Support Group, the college said 1,595 students registered for the placement, however, only 953 received job offers by May 7.
The RTI data also revealed that 23 percent (338) of students did not secure campus placements in 2022-23 season. A year earlier, 28 percent (409) were not placed.
The average and median salary offered at the IIT (ISM)-Dhanbad also declined when compared to the past two years. Currently, the average salary stands at 15.83 lakh per annum (LPA) and median at 12 LPA.

In 2022-23, the average salary was 17 LPA and median at 13.64 LPA. In 2021-22, the institute recorded average salary of 16.84 and median at 14 LPA.
Earlier, RTI data shared by Singh revealed that around 40 percent of students each at IIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Banaras Hindu University (BHU), IIT- Indore had not been placed during the ongoing placement season.
