A video allegedly showing a BJP leader harassing a visually impaired woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur has gone viral on social media. The footage shows a woman, identified by opposition leaders as a BJP district functionary, making derogatory remarks about the visually impaired woman’s disability.
In the video, the leader is heard allegedly saying that the woman was blind in this life and would remain blind in the next as well. She is also seen questioning the woman for wearing vermilion and for bringing a child into a church.
The video further shows the leader allegedly holding the woman’s hand and getting into a physical scuffle with her. Police personnel present at the spot are seen intervening to calm the situation and separate those involved.

The incident is linked to a protest held on December 20 at a church in Jabalpur’s Gorakhpur area. Members of several Hindu organisations had gathered there, claiming that forced religious conversions were taking place. Protesters alleged that visually impaired students were being brought to the church for conversion, leading to a tense standoff.
According to a report by NDTV, BJP district functionary Anju Bhargava was present at the protest along with activists from Hindu groups. It is alleged that she entered the church premises, where children and a differently abled woman were seated. An argument allegedly followed, which later escalated into the confrontation captured on video.
Hindu organisation members also claimed that visually impaired children had been brought to Hawabagh College and were being “brainwashed.”
After the video surfaced on Monday, the Congress strongly criticised the BJP. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate shared the clip on social media and alleged that the woman seen harassing the visually impaired person was BJP’s Jabalpur district vice-president. She described the incident as an act of “cruelty and insensitivity” and accused the BJP of hypocrisy.
As of now, the BJP has not issued any official statement or response regarding the viral video or the allegations surrounding the incident.
