A woman in Agra died by suicide after recording videos in which she accused a police constable of deceiving her following a long relationship. The videos later surfaced online and drew the attention of senior officials.
In the recordings, the woman alleged that she had been in a live in relationship with the constable for several years and that he was now preparing to marry someone else.
“His elder brother, on one hand, is telling me to get married. And on the other hand, JV Gautam told me that my family won't let him marry me. I am saying that don't get married but at least don't deceive any girl," the woman said in the video.
She also directly blamed the constable and his family for her decision. “JV Gautam and his entire family is the reason for my death. They have manipulated me so much. They have mentally disturbed me so much that they have forced me to die."
In the same message, the woman appealed to UP CM Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi, saying she had not received justice during her lifetime and expressing hope that action would be taken after her death.
Preliminary information indicates that the woman was originally from Kasganj. She had previously been divorced and was employed in a private job in Agra when she came in contact with the constable.
After the videos circulated widely and reached senior police officials, the constable identified as JV Gautam was placed under suspension.
Police said a case has been registered against him following a complaint lodged by the woman’s father at the local police station. Authorities have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The woman’s death has left her family in deep grief, with relatives demanding strict action against the accused and justice for their daughter.
