The Bengaluru police have arrested a man after he allegedly attacked a Zepto delivery rider with a machete near a warehouse in VV Puram. The accused was identified as Chandan.

According to a report by News18, a video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows him arriving on a two-wheeler, stepping off, and striking the delivery rider on the back with the weapon.

Though injured, the rider managed to escape. The footage further shows Chandan, who was under the influence of alcohol during the incident, returning to his vehicle, before stepping out again with the machete and swinging it at another man nearby. Both victims are said to have sustained minor injuries.

“Swift thinking saved a life. An intoxicated individual attempted to stab a Zepto delivery executive with a knife—he narrowly escaped by a hair’s breadth. Alcohol is no excuse for crime! One wrong act can land you in jail," the Bengaluru Police said in a post on X.

According to police, the attack was not an isolated act of violence. Preliminary investigations suggest that Chandan and the victims knew each other and had a prior rivalry, reported NDTV.

“Initial inquiry indicates that the accused and the victims were acquainted, and a rivalry between them appears to have triggered the assault. Two accused persons have been apprehended and booked under relevant sections of law," South Division DCP Lokesh B Jagalasar was quoted as saying.

Following the attack, the VV Puram police registered a case against the accused.
