The members of the right-wing group ‘Hindu Raksha Dal’ held a protest outside a KFC outlet in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday, demanding that non-vegetarian food should not be sold during the holy Hindu month of Sawan, which is considered a sacred time for worship and fasting by many Hindus.

The group also demonstrated outside a local restaurant named Nazir, which led to disruptions and forced both places to temporarily shut down. The incident quickly gained attention after videos of the protest were widely shared on social media platforms, The Times of India reported.

In the viral videos, the protesters were seen waving saffron flags and chanting religious slogans like ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev.’ One of the videos showed members of the group pulling down the shutter of the KFC outlet. The protesters later stood in front of the closed outlet, shouting slogans in support of Hindu traditions.

In another video, the protesters could be seen entering the restaurant premises, confronting the staff, and demanding the immediate closure of operations. One of them was heard shouting, “All of these items should be banned in the month of Sawan,” referring to the non-vegetarian food being served.

Pinky Chaudhary, the chief of the group, said, “Our message is clear. We are asking all non-vegetarian food outlets to refrain from serving such food during the Kanwar Yatra. If they want to remain open, they should serve vegetarian items only.”

Reacting to the incident, Nimish Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans-Hindon), said that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in the area to maintain public order.

A suo motu FIR has been registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against ten unidentified individuals for violating public rules. “We are working to identify those involved in the protest,” the officer was quoted by TOI as saying.
