A 58-year-old special secretary posted at the Haryana Civil Secretariat died on Wednesday afternoon after allegedly jumping from the office building.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Arora, who was serving as Special Secretary in the office of IAS officer Hitesh Meena at the Haryana Secretariat. According to police, the incident took place at around 12.45 pm. Arora allegedly stepped out of his office and jumped from the sixth floor of the Secretariat building.

Employees present in the building immediately raised an alarm. He was rushed without delay to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16, Chandigarh. However, doctors on duty declared him brought dead.

Police recovered a suicide note from the spot which stated that he was "under no pressure from either family or office" and did not blame anyone for his actions, The Times of India reported.

However, police are still probing whether workplace stress or harassment played a role. The note is likely to be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for handwriting verification.

According to the Secretariat employees, Arora had been disturbed for some time, allegedly over issues related to his posting. They also claimed that this was not the first such incident. Earlier this week, he had allegedly attempted to jump from the eighth floor of the building but was stopped in time by his colleagues.

On another occasion before that, staff members had intervened and prevented him from jumping from the seventh floor. He was set to retire in October 2026.

Police officials said they reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. Inquest proceedings have been initiated under relevant legal provisions. Officers are recording statements of employees working in his office and others who were present nearby at the time, in order to understand the circumstances that led to the incident.

Arora’s wife, Uma Arora, is also a government employee and is currently posted at the Governor’s House. The family has not yet released any formal statement regarding the incident.
