In a brazen pre-dawn attack that has sent shockwaves through India’s film capital, unidentified assailants opened fire on the Juhu residence of acclaimed director Rohit Shetty on Sunday, an act swiftly claimed by the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang in a social media post threatening the entire Bollywood industry.

The incident, which occurred around 12.45 am at the nine-storey ‘Shetty Tower’, saw at least five rounds fired, with one bullet striking the glass of a gym inside the building. No injuries were reported and it remains unclear if Shetty was present at the time. Security was immediately intensified at the location.

Pune Police have detained five people (Aman Anand, Aditya Gyaneshwar, Siddharth Deepak, Samarth, and Swapnil) in connection with the firing incident at Bollywood director Rohit Shetty's residence.

Three of them have been arrested and brought to the Mumbai Anti-Extortion Cell, and they will be produced in court tomorrow. The other two are still in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

According to police sources cited by CNN-News18, the assailants, after the shooting, attempted to flee via an auto-rickshaw, asking the driver to take them to Kalyan. The driver’s statement has been recorded. Forensic and ballistic teams have scoured the scene and a case has been registered under attempt to murder charges of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.

The arrests followed a coordinated operation. “Teams were formed in Pune after receiving information from Mumbai Police,” said Pune Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam. The suspects were subsequently handed over to Mumbai authorities for further questioning.

However, the most chilling development emerged hours after the gunshots. A post surfaced on social media from an account named “Shubham Lonkar and Arzoo Bishnoi”, high-profile operatives of the Bishnoi syndicate. The message, written in Hindi and peppered with religious salutations, delivered a direct threat.

It stated that the group, also naming alleged members Hari Boxer and Harman Shandu, had “messaged him many times not to interfere in our work, but he did not understand.” Declaring the firing “just a small trailer,” the post warned: “If he doesn't listen, the next bullets won't be outside the house — they will be inside his bedroom, into his chest.”

The threat then broadened to encompass Bollywood at large, stating: “This is a warning to the entire Bollywood industry: mend your ways or your condition will be worse than Baba Siddique’s.” Baba Siddique, a Nationalist Congress Party leader, was assassinated in 2024 in a killing linked to the gang. The post concluded with a signature declaration of the gang’s supremacy.

In court, the defence lawyer for the arrested individuals contested the police narrative, telling news agency ANI that his clients had “no links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang” and “no knowledge of the firing,” claiming someone else had carried out the attack.

The incident marks a severe escalation in the gang’s campaign of intimidation targeting high-profile figures in Mumbai, eerily echoing the 2024 shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s home. It underscores the syndicate’s continued attempts to extort and exert control over the entertainment industry through public acts of terror.

The Mumbai Police’s crime branch and local units are leading the investigation. “Zonal police and crime branch teams are investigating,” a senior officer reportedly confirmed, adding that all angles are being examined.
