As dense fog blanketed Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning, the Delhi Airport issued an advisory, warning travellers about the possible flight delays.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for low visibility, warning travellers of possible disruptions. Delhi airport authorities reported that flights are operating under CAT III conditions, which allow landing in very low visibility but may result in delays. Passengers have been advised to arrive early and monitor their flight status with airlines.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet in its travel advisory stated, “Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via http://spicejet.com/#status.”

Cold spell and foggy mornings

The morning fog coincides with a dip in temperatures across the region. Delhi’s maximum and minimum temperatures are expected around 20°C and 8°C, respectively. Safdarjung Observatory recorded the coldest February day in four years on Monday, with a maximum of just 17.5°C.

Partly cloudy skies are expected on Tuesday, but dense fog is likely to persist in the early mornings. A recent western disturbance and light rain have kept moisture levels high, intensifying the fog and reducing visibility further.

The poor visibility is affecting road traffic as well, with drivers urged to exercise caution during early hours. Over 300 flights were delayed on Monday due to the fog, and similar disruptions are expected in the coming days.
