  • Delhi Traffic Police warns of major disruptions Wednesday evening
  • Strict curbs near Bharat Mandapam for Modi, Macron summit visit
  • Commuters urged to avoid key roads, use alternate routes

A day after widespread congestion brought parts of the national capital to a crawl, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday, forecasting another evening of significant travel disruption.

With the high-profile AI Impact Summit 2026 continuing at Bharat Mandapam, authorities have announced strict traffic arrangements from 4 pm to 10 pm to accommodate VVIP movement and stringent security protocols.

The most severe restrictions are anticipated in the evening when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron are scheduled to attend the summit. This high-level diplomatic presence has prompted a comprehensive security lockdown around the venue and key diplomatic enclaves, forcing police to regulate vehicular movement on several major arterial roads.

In an official bulletin, the traffic police urged commuters to plan their journeys meticulously and avoid affected stretches where possible. Officials have stressed that public cooperation will be essential to mitigating the gridlock. Real-time updates and guidance will be disseminated through official police channels and personnel will be deployed at key intersections to direct motorists.

Roads likely to be affected and diversions

Authorities have identified a long list of roads likely to face either complete restrictions or regulated movement during the six-hour window. Motorists are advised to avoid the vicinity of Bharat Mandapam and the diplomatic zone, with potential delays expected on Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Janpath and Windsor Place.

Other routes likely to be impacted include Tees January Marg, Prithvi Raj Road, Rajesh Pilot Marg and Subrahmaniam Bharti Marg. Restrictions may also extend to Mathura Road between the Lodhi Flyover and Bhairon Marg, as well as Shanti Path, Africa Avenue, Satya Marg and Dr Zakir Hussain Marg.

To ease the pressure on these corridors, the traffic police have recommended a network of alternate routes. Commuters are advised to utilise San Martin Marg, Panchsheel Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Marg and Kamal Ataturk Marg. Further alternatives include Aurobindo Marg, Lodhi Road, South Avenue Road, Vandematram Marg, Barapullah Road, Ring Road, Tilak Marg, Ferozshah Road, Rafi Marg, Sansad Marg and K Kamraj Marg.

Security and logistics at the venue

As part of the enhanced security blanket, entry into the Bharat Mandapam complex will be strictly restricted after 4 pm, with vehicle movement in the immediate vicinity subject to close monitoring. Summit delegates have been specifically advised to opt for public transport.

In an official press statement, police noted that parking availability around the venue is extremely limited, urging attendees to rely on the metro, cabs, or other mass transit options to reach the destination.

The fresh advisory follows two days of significant traffic chaos across central, east and south Delhi. The convergence of summit-related logistics, heightened security checks, the ongoing wedding season and concurrent board examinations has led to prolonged jams on major thoroughfares, with spillover congestion affecting numerous arterial roads during peak hours.

Authorities have advised all commuters to factor in additional travel time for Wednesday evening, adhere strictly to lane discipline and follow the directions of traffic personnel deployed on the ground.
