Chennai and its surrounding areas are likely to witness light to moderate rains for the next week, especially during evening hours, The New Indian Express reported. The rain will bring much-needed relief from the hot weather.

Some parts of the city received the first of these evening showers on Wednesday. However, the rain lasted only for around half an hour. As per the report, the daytime temperature of the city will be around normal, 36-37 degrees Celsius. These rains are not monsoon-driven, but triggered by local factors and convective processes.

Weather blogger Pradeep John, as per the report, said there will be short spells of rain for the next 10 days. However, not all places may get rain. Meanwhile, areas such as Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Tirupattur are likely to get isolated rainfall.
