Amid incessant rainfall, a car got almost submerged in a flooded underpass in Maharashtra's Thane. The passengers were rescued as locals swam to the middle and pushed the car to help them exit from it.
The underpass that connects Thane district's Narivali and Uttarshiv villages was flooded after heavy rains. A car got stuck in the rainwater. Two locals swam up to the car, after which one local climbed up on the rear of the car and pushed it down to allow it to move to safety.
After the car did not move much, the two passengers came out of the windows and swam towards the road.
The incident came on a day Thane, Mumbai, Palghar, Navi Mumbai, Raigad and many other districts in Maharashtra saw heavy rainfall, causing schools and colleges to shut.
Thane city alone recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall at 4.30 pm, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), NDTV reported.
