Hyundai offers Digital Key feature with the Alcazar.

Hyundai Motor India today said that one in three of its customers are now opting for the Digital Key feature, reflecting a shift in consumer preference towards technology-led convenience.

Introduced with the Hyundai Alcazar in September 2024 and later extended to the Creta Electric in January 2025, the Digital Key has seen a 33% penetration rate in less than a year.

For reference, the Alcazar is priced between Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 21.74 lakh, while the Creta Electric sits in the price bracket of Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 24.38 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom.

The feature, currently available on select variants of the Alcazar and the Creta Electric, enables users to generate a virtual key on their smartphones or smartwatches through the Hyundai Bluelink app, eliminating the need to carry a physical key.

The carmaker has indicated plans to expand its digital offerings further as Indian customers increasingly show interest in tech-based ownership experiences.

The Digital Key utilises NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. Owners can lock and unlock their car by tapping a compatible smartphone, smartwatch or an NFC card on the door handle. To start the vehicle, the device is placed on the wireless charging pad. The feature also supports key sharing with up to three users or seven devices, with access that can be revoked at any time.

According to the company, 68% of users access the Digital Key via iOS devices, while 32% use Android. About 35% of these users are actively sharing access with family or friends, highlighting its practical appeal.

Hyundai MD Unsoo Kim said the strong adoption underlined the company's focus on bringing premium connected features to Indian buyers.

The carmaker introduced connected car technology in India back in 2019 with the first-generation Venue. Hyundai is now gearing up to introduce the second-generation Venue on October 24.
