PM reaches terror-hit Pathankot, to meet Army and IAF officials

This comes even as a nervous Pakistan continues to play hardball with India following the latter's terse message to Islamabad in the aftermath of the Pathankot attacks, asking them to act first before talks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday arrived in Pathankot to assess the situation after the terrorist attack in the frontier town. The visit by the Prime Minister comes after the Centre faced sharp criticism over its handling of the Pathankot terror attack.

The Prime Minister is slated to visit top Army and Indian Air Force officials.

Meanwhile, Punjab Police have hiked security in Pathankot and Gurdaspur following the attack by Pakistani terrorists. With the Punjab Police facing heat for their lack of preparedness when terrorists struck the airbase in Pathankot, as many as four additional SPs have now been posted in the area. However, the postings are temporary.

This comes even as a nervous Pakistan continues to play hardball with India following the latter's terse message to Islamabad in the aftermath of the Pathankot attacks, asking them to act first before talks.

Top Pakistan government sources have revealed that the country's government has yet again claimed that 'India can't impose conditions for talks'.

Pakistan wants the DNA samples of the slain terrorists to be shared, adding that evidence given by the Indian government will not stand in a court of law. Shockingly, Pakistan has claimed that the Pathankot attackers did not come from Pakistan and has ruled out a time-bound action.

Six terrorists, believed to owe allegiance to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed were gunned down by the security forces after a four-day gun battle. Seven Indian security personnel also lost their lives.

The operation to ensure that no terrorist was hiding was carried out jointly by Army, NSG and IAF's Garud commandos. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had also visited the base on January 5.
