Adani Power, Tata Power gain; CERC to fix compensatory rate

As per the Parekh panel recommendations, Tata Power may get compensatory tariff of 45-55 paise for Mundra while Adani Power may increase tariff by 50-60 paise for Mundra plant. Earlier in April, CERC had allowed two higher rates to compensate for the losses from a change in an Indonesian regulation that made coal costlier.

Shares of Adani Power (up around 5 percent) and Tata Power (up 3 percent) saw buying interest in early morning trade on Friday as Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is likely to decide compensatory tariff rate today.

The power regulator has asked discoms to submit views on Deepak Parekh report. The Deepak Parekh panel had recommended a compensatory tariff of 45-55 paise for its 4,000 MW Mundra plant and a tariff increase to the tune of 60 paise for its 4,620 MW Mundra plant. Out of the 4620 MW, the 1500 MW PPA signed with Haryana is also expected to get a tariff increase by 90 paise/unit.

A committee, headed by HDFC Bank Chairman Deepak Parekh was formed to decide the amount of compensation, on CERC’s direction.

Adani Power was quoting at Rs 36.05, up Rs 1.10, or 3.15 percent on the BSE while Tata Power was at Rs 77.75, up Rs 1.20, or 1.57 percent.
