Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom arm of Reliance Industries Limited, on Monday held discussions with Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials for the proposed rollout of 4G services in the metropolis.
"The dicussion we had with KMC today was positive and more are likely to take place", Reliance Jio business head and state mentor (East) Tarun Jhunjhunwala said. The company apprised the civic authority about laying of 750 km of underground optical fibre network within KMC's jurisdiction.
The civic body in turn told Reliance Jio about the legalities involved and the related fee structure. The meeting was held between Jhunjhunwala and mayor-in-council member (engineering) Atin Ghosh. Jhunjhunwala said after getting the necessary permissions, work on the Rs 3,000-crore project would start soon and would be completed by the first quarter of 2014.
