HealthCare Global Enterprises Ltd today launched HCG Hospitals, a tertiary care center, in West Bangalore. The 225 bed hospital is equipped with state of the art facilities and advanced technology.

This center of excellence was inaugurated by renowned super star, Mr. Puneeth Rajkumar.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Puneeth Rajkumar, said, "HCG has created an accessible model in cancer care, I'm pleased to be associated with this organization and it gives me immense pride to inaugurate their first tertiary care hospital in West Bangalore, I hope this will be a boon to patients in this region."

Dr. B S Ajaikumar, Chairman, HCG Group, said, "We have been successful in redefining cancer care by setting up comprehensive cancer centers across India, this was possible only because HCG joined hands with doctors across India. We believe that by participating with doctors in other specialties we will be able to recreate in these specialties what we have created in cancer care."

Why HCG is getting into tertiary care?

Nearly one million Indians die every year due to inadequate healthcare facilities and 700 million people have no access to specialist care. India faces a huge need gap in terms of availability of number of hospital beds per 1000 population. With a world average of 3.96 hospital beds per 1000 population India stands just a little over 0.7 hospital beds per 1000 population, one of the lowest in the world.

With inadequate budgetary support both at the Central and State levels, most state governments are finding it increasingly difficult to expand their public health facilities to cater to the healthcare needs of their growing population. This gap is being filled by the private sector.

In terms of resource allocation, the areas that have suffered most are secondary and tertiary care. This is because expansion of tertiary health care facilities needs considerable resources to adequately respond to the needs of state of art diagnostic procedures and treatment modalities.

World Health Statistics say that India ranks among the lowest in hospital beds 0.7 per 1, 000 population, with Sri Lanka on the other hand has 3.1 beds per 1,000 population, China 3 beds, Thailand 2.2, Brazil 2.4, USA 3.1 and UK 3.9 beds per 1,000 population.
