J K Lakshmi Cement has got green nod for setting up of a clinker grinding unit with a capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum along with 10 MW DG set and autoclaved aerated concrete block in Kishanganj district in Bihar, entailing an investment of Rs 300 crore. "Based on the recommendations of the Expert Appraisal Committee, the Environment Ministry has given the environment clearance (EC) to J K Lakshmi Cement's proposed project in Bihar," a senior Environment Ministry official said. The EC has been given with certain conditions, the official added.

Among conditions specified, the official said J K Lakshmi Cement has been asked to develop green belt in at least 33 per cent area in and around the cement plant as per the norms. The company has also been asked to install air monitoring devices, control secondary fugitive emissions, reduce impact of transport of the raw materials and end products on the surrounding environment, among others. As per the proposal, the new project -- which would cost about Rs 300 crore -- will come up in 14.02 hectares at chakla (Bhedyiadang) Industrial area in Kishanganj district.

The company has proposed to set up a clinker grinding unit with a capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum along with 1,000 cubic metres per day production of autoclaved aerated concrete block and 10 MW diesel generator (DG) set. The company has installed cement making capacity of over 9 million tonnes per annum across the country. In the first quarter of 2015-16 fiscal, JK Lakshmi Cement had reported a standalone net loss of Rs 23.48 crore due to subdued market and higher costs, as against a net profit of Rs 40.45 crore in the April-June period of last fiscal.
