Bajaj Auto 's total sales in April rose 4% from a year ago to 3,81,590 lakh units as growth in motorcycle sales and exports offset a decline in three-wheeler sales. The India's second largest two-wheeler maker sold 3,42,324 motorcycles last month, up 6% from a year ago. It was Bajaj's highest ever motorcycle sales for any April. Its exports were also highest ever, up 7% to 1,69,010. However, its three-wheeler commercial vehicle sales slipped 13% year-on-year to 39,266 units. Bajaj Auto shares fell 1.2% to Rs 1,604.80 in morning trade, as investors were concerned sector growth could slow further. The company's sales in March had risen 9%, while its sales last fiscal rose 14%.
Kevin Dsa, Bajaj Auto's VP-Finance, told CNBC-TV18 the company was confident of exceeding domestic market growth and can maintain a run-rate of 3 lakh motorcycle sales going ahead. He expects the industry will grow 6% in the first quarter.
