Passkeys

Passkeys are a modern, password-free way to securely log into websites and apps using cryptographic key pairs. Instead of relying on traditional passwords, users can authenticate themselves with biometric data such as fingerprints, facial recognition, or even a device PIN. Passkeys haven’t really gone mainstream yet but are slowly gaining traction as they not only strengthen security but also streamlines the login process, making it faster and more convenient. Here are some popular apps and services offering passkey login instead of passwords:

WhatsApp

Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced passkey support for Android and iPhone users. No need to rely on on SMS-based OTPs as passkeys make the login process faster and more secure. Users can enable passkeys by navigating to Settings > Account > Passkeys.

Amazon

Amazon has introduced passkey support, enabling customers to log in using their face, fingerprint, or device PIN for a more secure and hassle-free experience. Available on both browsers and mobile shopping apps, this new feature simplifies the login process while boosting security. Users can set up passkeys by heading to their Amazon account settings.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome now offers passkey support across platforms like Windows, macOS, and Android, making it easier to log in without traditional passwords. Instead, you can use biometric data like fingerprints or facial recognition to sign into websites and apps. Plus, passkeys are synced through Google Password Manager, so you get a smooth and secure login experience across all your devices.

Gmail

Just like Google Chrome, users can now access Gmail accounts with passkeys. Do keep in mind that to set any passkey, you will have to sign in with your password first.

Microsoft

Microsoft has also embraced passkeys, allowing users to sign in to their accounts without passwords. This feature is available on Windows 11 for now, providing an extra layer of security for Microsoft services.
