Zomato, the market leader in food delivery, clocked nearly two pizza orders every second in 2024, the company revealed in its year-end wrap on December 27.
"You can line them (pizzas) up from Mumbai to New York City and beyond," Zomato said based on its findings.
However, despite a staggering 5.84 crore orders during the year, pizzas were only the second most-ordered dish on the platform.
Biryani, at 9.13 crore orders during the year, was the most popular dish on Zomato, the company said. That translates to more than three biryani orders per second, every day for 365 days!
Even on Swiggy, the number two food delivery player, biryani was the most popular dish followed by pizzas. The Bengaluru-based company had earlier said it received two biryani orders per second which made it the undisputed ‘king’ of the food kingdom, surpassing pizzas.
Biryani and pizzas, for long, have been the most popular dishes Indians have ordered on food delivery apps.
Dosas and burgers were also on the list of most popular dishes, along with others.
Shedding light on the chai vs coffee debate, Zomato said tea took the crown.
Zomato received 77 lakh tea orders in 2024, slightly ahead of 74 lakh coffee orders during the year.

Apart from food delivery, Zomato also has a dining out/going out business. “A Zomato Gold customer saved Rs 2,24,591 on delivery and dining,” Zomato said in its year-end wrap.
Zomato Gold is the company’s loyalty programme that users can enrol under to get discounts. It rivals Swiggy One.
