Counterpoint Research has revealed the Global Handset Model Sales Tracker for Q3, 2024 and once again the iPhone has topped the chart with iPhone 15 being the best-selling phone in the third quarter of the year 2024. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro ranked second and third, respectively, demonstrating Apple’s strong presence in the premium smartphone market.

According to the report, half of the total iPhone sales in Q3 2024 came from Pro variants, marking the first time this has happened in a third quarter. The narrowing sales gap between Apple’s base and Pro models indicates a growing preference for higher-value devices, helping the company drive revenue. Emerging markets also contributed to Apple’s sales, supported by financing schemes and trade-in offers, which increased the accessibility of the latest iPhones.

Samsung has the most spots in top 10 list

Samsung held the most spots in the global top-10 list with five entries, followed by Apple with four and Xiaomi with one. This distribution mirrors last year’s rankings, reflecting steady consumer preferences. Combined, the top 10 smartphones accounted for about 19% of global market sales, with Apple’s share slightly declining while Samsung’s presence expanded.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 remained in the top 10 for the third consecutive quarter. It is the first Galaxy S series model to achieve this feat in a third quarter since 2018. Samsung attributed the success of its S24 series to its focus on GenAI features and targeted marketing campaigns.

The rapport highlights that competitive pricing and extended software support played a key role in their success. However, competition from the Galaxy S series and other mid-tier Galaxy A models has impacted the higher-end A series devices.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C secured a position in the list for the second consecutive quarter, succeeding the Redmi 12C. Its affordability and popularity in emerging markets contributed to its continued presence.
