Product engineering and digital services firm Tata Technologies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru's RV College of Engineering on April 7 to establish the Center for Invention, Innovation, Incubation & Training (CIIIT).

The collaboration, which is reportedly a first of its kind in southern India, aims to equip students with smart manufacturing and industry 4.0 skillsets. The Tata Group company will invest Rs 50 crore in the CIIT.

"We are providing industry-grade software and industry for related technologies. We are also providing electric and renewable energy vehicles training to people, which is what everybody wants, which is skilled manpower" said Pawan Bhageria, President, Tata Technologies.

Meanwhile, the college will pool another Rs 10 crore to develop the state-of-the-art training center.

CIIIT will house advanced industrial infrastructure, smart manufacturing tools, and specialised laboratories. The move by the Tata Group company assumes relevance as it is designed to plug the gap between academic syllabus and industrial application.

The centre aims to produce job-ready engineers, technicians, and skilled operators for modern industrial environments.

Bhageria said the first batch of students will be trained with relevant skills over the next 18 months, aligning with the timeline for the CIIT to become fully operational. "Secondly, there are a lot of short-term courses as well. So you may see some of the people coming prepared with certain skills in three to four months," he further said.

The center will also assist MSMEs with technological support and serve as a talent development hub for large industries, said KN Subramanya, Principal, RV College of Engineering. "This initiative is a beacon of innovation and impact, promoting academic excellence, employability, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development across all sectors of society," he said.

Various executives from Tata Technologies highlighted a dire need for academia and industry to come together to create a job-ready workforce.
