Samsung has been tipped to launch a triple-foldable smartphone for quite some time now, and it is considered to be the South Korean brand's next big bet after the success of its foldable devices in the last decade. The project was expected to further accelerate, after Huawei debuted its first tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT, in China, earlier this year. However, we may have to wait for some time before it becomes a reality.
Samsung’s triple-foldable smartphone could launch in 2026
Earlier this week, display analyst Ross Young, while replying to a post on X, claimed that Samsung's Galaxy tri-fold smartphone is likely to launch in early 2026. The handset was previously rumoured to debut sometime in 2025 after many industry sources believed that Samsung could soon push a tri-foldable smartphone after Huawei’s entry.
However, Samsung's tri-fold smartphone is expected to differ significantly from Huawei's Mate XT. The Mate XT features three foldable displays, that fold outward, exposing these screens when the device is completely closed. This increases the risk of damage, especially when the smartphone is used without its supplied cover.
Hence, Samsung's upcoming tri-fold design is expected to have an ‘in-fold’ mechanism with two inward folds, which is believed to offer far better durability. We can also expect this tri-foldable Galaxy smartphone to go official a few months after the launch of the new Galaxy Z Fold and Flip smartphones in 2026.
