Samsung’s next foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold8, may feature a larger battery compared to the current Galaxy Z Fold7. A report suggests that the upcoming device could include a 5,000mAh battery, marking a capacity increase within Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.
If the information proves accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold8 would carry a battery that is about 13 percent larger than the one found in the Galaxy Z Fold7. This change would give the upcoming foldable the largest battery used in Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup so far.
Battery capacity leak
According to a report by GalaxyClub, Samsung is planning to equip the Galaxy Z Fold8 with a 5,000mAh battery. The reported figure is expected to be the marketed battery capacity of the device.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 currently features a smaller battery, so the upgrade could result in longer usage time for tasks such as streaming, multitasking, and gaming. However, even with this increase, the battery capacity would still remain below the 5,600mAh battery reportedly used in Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold device.
The larger battery could be important for foldable smartphones, as they typically feature large internal displays that consume more power compared to standard smartphones.
Charging speed still unclear
While the battery capacity may increase, details about charging speeds remain uncertain. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series has traditionally supported up to 25W wired fast charging.
There is a possibility that Samsung may increase charging speeds for the Galaxy Z Fold8. The company recently introduced faster charging in its flagship smartphone lineup, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which supports up to 60W fast charging.
Whether similar improvements will arrive in the Galaxy Z Fold8 remains to be confirmed.
Other expected features
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is expected to feature a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch foldable OLED screen. Reports also suggest that the foldable panel could feature reduced crease visibility.
The device may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. It could launch with at least 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold8 alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8 and a wider variant of the Galaxy Z Fold8 sometime in mid-2026.
