Honor recently introduced the Magic V5 in China, stating the Ivory White model is just 8.8mm thick when folded. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, on paper, is slightly thicker at 8.9mm. But a new comparison video tells a different story.

A well-known tipster, UniverseIce, posted a short clip showing both phones stacked side by side. At first glance, they seem almost the same, but a simple card test shows the Galaxy Z Fold 7 might actually be a tiny bit thinner. A rolling ball on the card slides down towards the Honor phone, making it obvious there’s a slight height difference. Even a micrometer confirmed Samsung’s device is slimmer.

Another video goes a step further and compares the Honor Magic V5 to Oppo’s Find N5, making Honor’s “thinnest” claim even shakier.

So, what’s going on? It looks like Honor’s measurements come with some fine print. The company admits on its website that the thickness of 8.8mm applies only to one colour model and doesn’t include the screen protectors or the camera bump. In short, the way they measure the phone might make it seem slimmer than it feels in real life.

Honor hasn’t replied to these latest comparisons. But in the real world, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 might take the crown for being thinner — even if it is just by a hair.
