Capcom recently announced Resident Evil: Requiem, the ninth mainline game in the Resident Evil franchise. Here are 10 things you need to know about the upcoming survival horror game, also dubbed as Resident Evil 9 or RE9.

Resident Evil: Requiem (RE: Requiem or RE9) is an upcoming single-player survival horror game with a new storyline. With RE: Requiem, Capcom promises “a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core.”

Resident Evil: Requiem is set in Raccoon City, a key fictional town in the US in the horror franchise’s lore. Raccoon City was the headquarters of the former pharmaceutical firm, Umbrella Corporation.

Resident Evil: Requiem introduces a new protagonist to the series: FBI intelligence analyst Grace Ashcroft. Grace is a workaholic introvert and known for her “intense focus and insight in deductive reasoning and analysis.”

Grace is writing a summary report on her investigation into a series of deaths due to an unidentifiable disease, when her boss interrupts and asks to see her in his cabin. He informs Grace there that the mysterious disease seems to have claimed another life at the abandoned Wrenwood Hotel and wants her to go there and investigate the crime scene.

Grace is visibly shocked to hear the name of the hotel, as it brings horrific memories. The Wrenwood Hotel is the same hotel where her mother, Alyssa, was murdered eight years ago.

As per Capcom, Resident Evil Requiem’s story will “explore the legacy of the Umbrella Corporation and Grace's confrontation with her past.” The developer adds that RE: Requiem has rich characters and the gameplay is “more immersive than ever before.”

The Wrenwood Hotel case will lead Grace to uncover the hidden truth behind 1998’s zombie outbreak in Raccoon City.

Resident Evil Requiem supports both first-person and third-person views/ perspectives. You can switch between the two at any time while playing.

As Grace Ashcroft, you will have to manage your resources wisely as you progress in your investigation. Some puzzles are also thrown in the mix. But most importantly, she is going to fight for her life as she progresses in her assigned case.

Resident Evil Requiem will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on February 27, 2026.
