Monster Hunter Wilds is a third-person action role-playing game. It is the next mainline game in the Monster Hunter franchise after 2018’s Monster Hunter: World.

Monster Hunter Wilds is developed and published by Japanese video game maker Capcom. Some of the other notable Capcom franchises are Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Street Fighter.
Story
When his village near the Forbidden Lands was attacked by a mysterious monster, Nata, a young boy, managed to escape and tell the tale. The Forbidden Lands is an unexplored region where you will go and seek out its secrets. As per Capcom, Monster Hunter Wilds is “a story of monsters and humans and their struggles to live in harmony in a world of duality”.
Protagonist
In Monster Hunter Wilds, you play as a professional monster hunter who tracks and beats powerful monsters.
Your team and your task
In the game’s story, you will be a part of a team (the Avis unit) that goes to the Forbidden Lands to investigate a monster called the "White Wraith". The task of rescuing Nata's people (the Keepers) also lies on your shoulders.
Stay aware of the environment
“Environments within the Forbidden Lands can drastically change as the weather shifts constantly and suddenly”, says Capcom. During the Fallow and Inclemency periods, monsters will come out to hunt in packs. As a monster hunter, you have to learn to anticipate the monsters’ behaviour and familiarise yourself with their environment.
Forge your weapons and armour
In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can harvest weapons and armour from the material you harvest from the hunts.
Co-op and crossplay support
In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can hunt with up to three of your friends online, regardless of which platform they choose to join the game from.
Weapons
Monster Hunter Wild features the 14 weapon types from the Monster Hunter series. These are: Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gunlance, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Insect Glaive, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun and Bow.
Platforms and release date
Monster Hunter Wilds launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) on February 28, 2025.
