There’s a new AI assistant in tech town. Europe-based AI company Mistral has rolled out Le Chat, offering a range of features to take on other popular AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Claude and others.

In a blog post, Mistral said that its AI assistant is “powered by the highest-performing, lowest-latency Mistral models and the fastest inference engines on the planet.” According to Mistral, Le Chat reasons, reflects, and responds faster than any other chat assistant, up to 1000 words / sec. Mistral also put a video on the blog post comparing it response times with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Claude AI.

The AI assistant claims to stand out with its natural language processing capabilities, allowing users to communicate with it seamlessly. It can the usual stuff like draft emails, proofread documents, summarise articles, and even solve complex mathematical equations.

Le Chat, as per Mistral AI, integrates the high-quality pre-trained knowledge of Mistral models with contemporary information sourced from platforms such as web search, robust journalism, social media, and numerous other sources. This comprehensive approach enables it to provide nuanced and evidence-based responses, said Mistral.

There will soon be the Memories feature — an opt-in — that helps Le Chat learn and remember more about user preferences. “This enables you to now use le Chat for personalised learning, tracking progress towards your goals, and rediscovering conversations and insights from way back,” said Mistral.

Mistral is also introducing AI agents within Le Chat. “Whether you want to streamline daily tasks, track personal finance, or automate scheduling, Le Chat can help you design and deploy micro-apps that enhance your productivity and efficiency,” said the company.

How much does Le Chat cost?

According to Mistral, Le Chat offers the vast majority of its features for free (latest models, journalism, image generation, document uploads, and more), with upgraded limits for power users starting at $14.99 per month in the Pro tier.
